A Pre-Columbian Pottery Red-Ware Lobed Vessel | Mexico c.1st century BC

This is a small Mexican dark red-ware lobed vessel that has a wavy outline. The central aperture has a short, slightly out-turned neck. The rim is chipped and the vessel has some overall surface wear, but otherwise, the condition is good. There is a smooth texture throughout.

Date: c. late 1st Millennium B.C. - early 1st Millennium A.D.

Size: 84 mm x 47mm

Provenance: From the collection of Sir Peter Hope (1912-1999), British Ambassador to Mexico (1968-1972).

Peter Hope was a British intelligence officer who later became a diplomat.
