A Greek Pottery Black Glazed Epichysis | Greek, Gnathian colonies in South Italy, 4th Century BC

This is an ancient Greek Epichysis with a spool-shaped body and tall handle. Either side of the spout is decorated with a roundel moulded as a classical head. The body is painted with red and white decoration. There is some missing paintwork to the spout and handle, but otherwise, it is in good condition.

Size: 125 x 76 mm

Provenance: Purchased in 2020 from a UK dealer. Previously ex. collection: Count Ferdinand de Grasset (1913-2010), Chateau des Bretignolles, France. Acquired in the 19th Century and thence by family descent.

Traces of two 19th Century ink numbers under the base.
